The Magic behind Walt Disney
The Magic behind Walt Disney
“If you can dream it, you can do it. Always remember that this whole thing was started with a dream and a mouse.” – Walt Disney
We grew up believing in fairy tales, happy endings and stories filled with magic and fantasies. We can’t deny the fact the we loved the idea of being in story book because we always knew that in the end, it’s going to be a happy ending. One of the biggest corporations in the world experienced more than just a happy ending. Did they do any magic? Did a witch cast a spell to make it successful? I think not. This corporation made its own magic. Let’s find out how.
The Walt Disney Company, commonly known as Disney, is an American diversified multinational mass media and entertainment. And we all know how successful Disney is – a well-known company with hundreds of blockbuster movies.
But of course, Walt Disney was not born with success already at his feet. Like any businesses they started small and pushed their way at the top. It did not happen overnight. Walt Disney did not have a fairy godmother to grant him success, instead he made his own success.
As an entrepreneur, we might want to know the magic behind Walt Disney’s success. Here are 5 things that you can learn from one of the most successful entrepreneurs in history:
1. Do what you love
The first thing that we can learn from Disney as an entrepreneur is his love for drawing. He loves to draw so much that he draws in his spare time and he even draws while working as an artist.
Imagine waking up every morning and doing what you love to do. You’ll be more productive in any ways you can imagine and you’ll be able to put more effort since it’s something that you want.
2. Take what you do seriously
Whenever Walt Disney made his cartoons, he always did so with the focus of a lion stalking his prey. He always paid attention to every detail and dealt with things with the utmost care. He never took his art and talent for granted. When you are serious about something, you make sure that the outcome is something you can be proud of. This gives you a different level of perspective on how you will do your work.
3. Do it for others
Whenever Walt Disney created animated shorts back then he never did it just for himself; he never hid his creations from the world, but instead he would always find ways in which he could share his work with others.
Wanting to help someone, entertain them, make them smile is one of the good motivations we can practice. With this in mind, we know that we are doing something worthwhile, and that’s what matter. We can spend our time doing what we love while we help others.
4. Never just settle with your first success
One thing that you would definitely notice about Walt Disney is that after one accomplishment he would immediately start on another project. After finishing his legendary film “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves”, Disney immediately went to work on other feature films such as “Bambi”, “Fantasia” and many others.
Upon reaching your first goal, find ways to better yourself as you push through. In this way, you are being progressive and it only means that you are growing from your experience. Wanting something more is never a bad thing. A flowing river is better than a stagnant river.
5. Don’t let obstacles stop you
When Walt Disney first started to work on Snow White, his wife and own brother did all they could to convince him to stop. The Snow White project was even termed as “Disney’s Folly”, and halfway across production he ran out of money to continue the work.
Imagine giving up on something just because you encountered an issue. You will never know the potential of your idea if you stopped working on it. That’s why it’s very important for entrepreneurs to have a strong-willed mindset.
As someone who works with micro and small businesses, we believe in the possibilities that one can reach this kind of height. You just need the right mindset, the skills, the right people to guide you and of course it will be needing you to be committed and to never give up on your goals.
